City of Houston and HealthQuilt Team Up

On July 14th, HealthQuilt and the City of Houston (COH) launched its HEAR (Houston Evacuation Assistance Registration) program to help increase enrollment of the  2-1-1 emergency evacuation and the Transportation Assistance Registry (TAR). Recruiting 63 students from the Greater Houston area, HealthQuilt and the COH are sending representatives to local clinics and enrolling at-risk patients in need of evacuation.

Stemming from our February 29th Disaster Preparedness Conference, HealthQuilt tested and piloted the HEAR project in zip codes surrounding the Houston Ship Channel. The pilot was conducted with students from the University of Houston at Clear-Lake from June 1st to June 24th. COH approached HealthQuilt to implement HEAR throughout Houston. With the recruitment of students, HealthQuilt has handed over operations to the City of Houston and provided translated material for use in different languages. HealthQuilt will handle the overall evaluation of the project.
